By the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller
to “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel – The Exhibition in the Parochialkirche”
Opening on February 16, 2018 in the Berlin Center District
I welcome you warmly in the Parochialkirche Berlin and to the exhibition on Michelangelo’s works in the Sistine Chapel.
Berlin has always been a city where great cultural and artistic offerings are abundant for the locals and tourists. People from all over the world are visiting Berlin. One of the reasons is: they want to see the lots of impressive works of art in our museums and galleries.
But if we say, literally, that all roads lead to Rome, this certainly makes sense concerning the history of art. The Sistine Chapel stands out from the many attractions of the “Eternal City”, because it hosts alongside many other great works with Michelangelo’s famous frescos. Thanks to this exhibition, people are now able to have a close look at the mastery of this fantastic artist.
The frescos are also proof of the rich religious heritage in Europe. It has taken a long time to make peace, tolerance and dialogue standards for the coexistence of different religions. This achievement must be preserved. That’s why I’m very happy that part of the revenues of the exhibition will be donated to the “House of One”, a project which consolidates Jews, Christians and Muslims under one single roof and will be a place for inter-religious meeting.
The House of One
“With your ticket, you support a project of our church community that is already taking shape at the Petriplatz – the House of One. Jews, Christians and Muslims are working together to build a house, under whose roof you will find a synagogue, a church and a mosque. A house of prayer and learning. A house of meeting, for the acquaintance and the communication of people with different religions. Even a house for those who are quite distant from the religion. A house that stands for peaceful coexistence. Thank you very much for your support.
We are glad that the creators and the organizers of the exhibition, the YOLO Event and their team, succeeded in presenting this exhibition in Berlin starting in February 2018, making it accessible for anyone. We are looking forward to seeing you here and wish you a wonderful time at the exhibition and the Parochialkirche.”
I wish you a nice and inspiring visit and much fun with the discovery of Michelangelo’s work.
With warm greetings, Michael
